About the Company
ExpressVPN, founded in the British Virgin Islands, has been operating since 2009. Today, after a short period of time, ExpressVPN stands tall as one of the top VPN providers of the VPN industry with a wide network and reliable services to back all of its claims up.
ExpressVPN , one of industry’s leading VPN names, is not very rich in features or Add-Ons but whatever it offers has great value and makes the VPN a trustable one. We are about to take a detailed look at the features ExpressVPN offers to the users.
Express VPN’s network is spread around the globe in 97+ locations. There are 97 cities in 78 countries to choose from in order to go anonymous and to access geo-restricted content from any part of the world. All the servers are powerful, providing thousands of IPs to switch to, as many times as desired. According to our analysis, the network is big enough to fulfill the needs of most users with privacy, security and freedom requirements.
There are three plans offered by Express VPN. 1 month plan for $12.95, 12 months plan for $8.32 and 6 months plan for $9.99. All three packages come with money back guarantee, 24/7 customer support, unlimited bandwidth and all Express VPN apps (Windows, Mac, iOS and Android). We personally like the 6 months plan because it is affordable and user can disconnect the service after a couple of months, if required. The plan can also be easily extended if desired. The monthly plan, on the other hand is a little bit expensive than the yearly and bi-annually plan.
ExpressVPN offers a number of payment options to the users so that they can pay without any hassle, and their transactions are done quickly and securely. The payment options offered include PayPal, American Express, Discover, Bitcoin and more. As long as a VPN provider supports Bitcoin, it really won’t matter even if they don’t offer any other options because Bitcoin is the easiest, safest and fastest payment mode today.
Protocol Support & Encryption
ExpressVPN supports all major protocols including TCP, UDP, L2TP/IPsec, PPTP, SSL, SSTP and OpenVPN. These many protocols are more than enough to meet all your needs whether they are about privacy, security, geo-unblocking or lag-free streaming. In fact, most of the VPN providers don’t offer these many protocols so this is a unique feature of ExpressVPN that differentiates it from its competitors.
The ExpressVPN network is also SSL secured with 256-bit encryption, which provides a strong layer of protection to keep user data and logs secure. Users, however, must be aware that PPTP protocol can be only utilized by setting up the VPN manually on the device. Also, the OpenVPN protocol does not work on iOS devices.
ExpressVPN is compatible with Windows, iOS, Android and Mac. So if you have a machine that runs one of these operating systems, you will be able to set ExpressVPN up easily and start enjoying its services right away. The VPN can also be easily setup on routers and consoles through manual configurations.
The VPN supports P2P file sharing. Users have a number of servers to connect to in order to upload or download their desired data/material using a P2P client, rapidly and easily. P2P is an extremely common mode of data transferring and ExpressVPN has allowed it keeping its importance in mind.
ExpressVPN offers multi-logins. However, the number of logins aren’t as many as most of the other VPN providers offer. Users can connect ExpressVPN on 1 computer and 1 handheld device at a time. According to a survey that we conducted within our VPN review team, an average Joe requires just two VPN logins, 1 on computer and the other on a SmartPhone, tablet or any other similar device. So the limited, but well thought-out multi-login offer should do the trick.
There are two mentionable policies of ExpressVPN:
No-Logs Policy: ExpressVPN claims that it doesn’t monitor user activity or keeps logs.
Money-Back-Guarantee: Users’ money is completely secure as they are offered a 30-day money-back guarantee to get a refund in case of not liking the product. Users must read the refund terms and conditions on official ExpressVPN website to ensure following the right procedure to claim the refund.
ExpressVPN’s official website says that it provides round-the-clock customer support. We decided to verify their claim and contacted the support team both via chat and e-mail. Amazingly, the response on both mediums was superfast. The live chat was, however, faster and we were talking to a customer support representative within a few seconds after hitting that live chat button. The answers were precise and the representative was very humble. We liked the ‘let’s not beat around the bush’ attitude of ExpressVPN support.
Innovative Features or Special Add-ons
We were very surprised to learn that such a highly-known and trustable VPN provider doesn’t really offer any innovative features or special Add-Ons. You can see below that ExpressVPN is not too keen on offering additional features apart from shared IPs, wide location coverage, data encryption and gaming support:
Dedicated IPs – No
Internet Kill Switch – No
Streaming Booster – No
Online Gaming Support – Yes – The online gaming supports all the major games through various servers that are strategically placed around the globe.
NAT Firewall – No
Web Protection – No
Anti Malware Protection – No
Encrypted Email – No
Stealth Browser – No
DDoS Attack Protection – No
Money-Back Guarantee is a plus. Service quality, customer support and overall experience is first-class as well. The Apps are easy to configure, pricing is justified, online gaming and P2P is allowed and last but not the least; Bitcoin is a supported payment mode.
There is no free trial version to test out the service. The multi-login feature is limited and there aren’t any Add-Ons or special features such as Streaming Booster, Stealth Browser, Malware/DDoS Protection, Nat Firewall etc. Express VPN also doesn’t offer dedicated IPs.
After a thorough evaluation of ExpressVPN we came to the conclusion that it’s a fast, stable and secure VPN service. It fulfils all the basic VPN requirements of the users whether be it about privacy, security or the need of breaking the geo-restrictions. The service lacks Add-Ons and special features but that doesn’t make ExpressVPN a weaker service at all.
